European Council welcomes work carried out on global partnership

On Friday 30 June, the European Council welcomed the work carried out on a package of mutually beneficial global partnership measures with Tunisia, based on the pillars of economic development, investment and trade, the green energy transition, migration and people-to-people contacts.

This partnership, which should initially have been the subject of an agreement with the European Council, is still under discussion. The European Commission is hoping for an agreement in the next few days (see EUROPE 13210/44).

In its conclusions, the European Council supported the resumption of political dialogue within the framework of the Association Agreement between the EU and Tunisia.

He also felt it was important to “strengthen and develop similar strategic partnerships between the European Union and partners in the region”.

The conclusions state that cooperation with Tunisia could serve as a model. This is exactly what we want to achieve”, explained Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni after the summit. (Original version in French by Camille-Cerise Gessant)
