30/06/2023 (Agence Europe) – Europe’s longest EU-funded underwater tunnel was officially inaugurated in Poland on Friday 30 June. The tunnel links the islands of Usedom and Wolin, as well as the city centre of Świnoujście to the rest of the country. It offers residents and visitors a seamless transport solution and will act as a catalyst for economic development in the region. This project, approved in June 2018, received funding of €162.3 million under the Cohesion Policy (during the 2014-2020 programming period), out of a total investment of €191.5 million. The road infrastructure will also be improved: new access roads to the tunnel and junctions will be built, including a roundabout on the island of Wolin and a T-junction on the island of Usedom. (LC)
