21/06/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 21 June, the European Commission did not confirm the names of Iliana Ivanova and Daniel Lorer, who, according to the Bulgarian press, had been nominated by their respective parties as European Commissioner within the College to replace Mariya Gabriel, who became her country’s Minister of Foreign Affairs at the beginning of June. As of midday, the institution had received “no formal notification” on this subject, said its deputy spokeswoman, Dana Spinant. Currently a member of the European Court of Auditors and a former MEP (Committees on Budgetary Control and Internal Market) from 2009 to 2012, Ms Ivanova is the candidate of the GERB party, which won the last Bulgarian parliamentary elections. The PP-DB party in the coalition government appointed Mr Lorer, MP and former Minister for Innovation. The President of the Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, has always demonstrated her commitment to parity within the College. (MB)
