13/06/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 13 June, the ambassadors of the Member States to the EU, who were meeting within the Political and Security Committee, appointed Giovanni Pietro Barbano as Head of Mission for the EU Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX Kosovo). Mr Barbano is a Major General in the Italian Carabinieri and the current Director of the Centre of Excellence for Stability Police Units in Vicenza and will replace Lars-Gunnar Wigemark from 26 June 2023. His term of office will run until 14 June 2025. At the beginning of June, the EU Council extended the mandate of the EULEX Kosovo mission until 14 June 2025 and decided that, in addition to continuing to implement its tasks, the mission would assist the law enforcement authorities of Kosovo in developing their capacities to exchange information with regional and international counterparts in the field of legal assistance and cooperation in criminal matters (see EUROPE 13195/32).
