06/06/23 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 5 June, the European Union Delegation to the Palestinians called on the Israeli army to use proportionate force after a two-year-old Palestinian child died. He was wounded by the Israeli army last Thursday in an exchange of fire near the settlement of Neveh Tzuf, north of Ramallah. “The use of force must be proportionate, in accordance with international humanitarian law and only as a last resort, when strictly unavoidable in order to protect life”, the Delegation stressed on Twitter. It reiterated that children and civilians must be protected under all circumstances. According to the Delegation, the ongoing investigation must establish who was responsible. The Israeli army regretted “the harm caused to non-combatants”, saying it was committed to doing everything in its power to prevent such “incidents”. (CG)
