On Tuesday 6 June, the EU’s Council of Ministers and the European Parliament reached an agreement on a proposal to revise the labelling rules for organic pet food.
Under the new regulation, pet food (dog and cat) will be able to carry the EU organic logo if 95% of its agricultural ingredients are organic, in line with the standards applied to food intended for human consumption.
The regulation also makes it easier for consumers to identify the organic ingredients in the pet food they buy. These include agricultural ingredients in pet food, which mainly contains products from hunting and fishing.
The new regulation still has to be adopted by the Council of the EU and the European Parliament.
