26/05/2023 (Agence Europe) – The lawyer of Eva Kaili, the deposed Greek Vice-President of the European Parliament, told Greek television channel Skai on Friday 26 May that his client plans to resume her duties at the European Parliament “next week”. She should also ask the European Parliament to determine whether the surveillance, arrest and imprisonment to which she was subjected in connection with ‘Qatargate’ (see EUROPE 13082/1) violated her rights as an MEP, said her lawyer, Michalis Dimitrakopoulos. On Thursday 25 May, Belgian Justice authorised Eva Kaili to remove her electronic bracelet. She had been under house arrest since her release from prison on 12 April (see EUROPE 13160/26). Suspected of having interceded for several years on behalf of foreign powers, including Qatar, in European Parliament decisions, in return for payments, Ms Kaili was imprisoned in Belgium on 10 December 2022.
