EU Court of Justice clarifies copyright rules applicable to satellite packages

On Thursday 25 May, the Court of Justice of the European Union ruled that in the context of cross-border retransmission of programmes by satellite (case C-290/21), the principle of the State of transmission applies to the provider of satellite packages .

Canal+ Luxembourg offers satellite packages from broadcasters in other Member States in Austria. These packages contain both paid and free TV channels, the latter of which can be received by anyone in standard quality in Austria.
