25/05/2023 (Agence Europe) – The European Patent Office (EPO) launched on Tuesday 23 May a new platform for sharing knowledge and patent information on technologies for fighting forest fires. The aim is to help local and national governments prepare to avoid the devastation of recent years. According to EPO President António Campinos: “The effectiveness of global firefighting depends on access to the necessary know-how and technical information contained in patents”. Patent applications and published patents are a valuable source of information for scientists, engineers and governments. Patent information includes all information that indicates to users which inventions already exist. It can provide new insights, generate breakthroughs and lead to technical partnerships, the EPO stresses. (AN)
