22/05/23 (Agence Europe) – On 16 May the Swedish Presidency of the EU Council presented a compromise text on the Council recommendation on intensifying EU actions to combat antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in the context of a ‘One Health’ approach. Among other things, the revised text states that, in the veterinary field, the availability of “narrow spectrum” antibiotics is essential to prevent the development and spread of antimicrobial resistance. This recommendation, suggested on 26 April as part of the ‘pharmacy package’ presented by the European Commission, includes the adoption by EU Member States of national action plans against AMR (see EUROPE 13170/2).
