22/05/23 (Agence Europe) – The vote in the European Parliament’s Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) on the provisional agreement reached between the Council of the EU and the Parliament on the revision of the Renewable Energy Directive (see EUROPE 13153/1) was scheduled for Tuesday 23 May. It was finally taken off the agenda as discussions relating to the provisional agreement did not take place at the meeting of the Permanent Representatives of the Governments of the Member States to the EU (Coreper) on 17 May and will have to be postponed. According to several diplomatic sources, France and pro-nuclear countries are trying to obtain “new concessions” and thus blocking a compromise (see EUROPE 13184/20). The objective, on the Parliament’s side, is that the vote in committee can take place in June, but now “the ball is in the Council’s court”, said a parliamentary source. (PLD)
