08/05/23 (Agence Europe) – The future EU directive that is supposed to empower consumers to act in favour of the green transition by providing them with adequate information on the reparability of products and by fighting against greenwashing by companies and early obsolescence of products is only waiting for the European Parliament to start interinstitutional negotiations. The EU Council’s negotiating position, agreed last week (see EUROPE 13174/10), is now published. The future legislation will revise the Consumer Rights Directive and the Unfair Commercial Practices Directive. Parliament will adopt its position on Thursday 11 May, based on the ‘Borzan’ report which, among other things, aims to outlaw unsubstantiated generic environmental and climate claims and to introduce product labelling on the guarantee - the legal guarantee and commercial guarantees beyond that (see EUROPE 13151/10).
