European Commission bans lead in PVC for products manufactured in EU or imported

On Wednesday 3 May, the European Commission adopted a regulation to restrict the presence of lead and its compounds in PVC (polyvinyl chloride) on the EU market and thus better protect health and the environment from this highly toxic heavy metal. This regulation amends Annex XVII of the REACH regulation (1907/2006) concerning the registration, evaluation, authorisation and restriction of chemical substances.
