European Parliament approves provisional agreement on ‘machinery and equipment’ regulation

18/04/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 18 April, MEPs approved the provisional agreement on the machinery and equipment regulation reached in December, with 595 votes in favour, 7 against, and 30 abstentions (see EUROPE 13085/17). The text amends the 2006 ‘Machinery’ directive by adapting it to the new needs of the market and the risks arising from technology. “It offers a balanced approach to secure safety for operators and at the same time it does not over-burden companies, especially SMEs”, said the text’s rapporteur, Ivan Štefanec (EPP, Slovak).
