17/04/2023 (Agence Europe) – “The EU strongly condemns the eruption of violence between the Sudan Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces” in Sudan and urges all parties to engage in an immediate cessation of hostilities, High Representative of the Union Josep Borrell said on Sunday 16 April in the afternoon. The fighting has already killed 56 civilians and three World Food Programme aid workers. His statement, issued on behalf of the EU27, stresses that this jeopardises “the tremendous efforts of the Sudanese parties, including the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Sudan Liberation Front, to bring back the country toward the path of democracy”. Mr Borrell assures that “the EU will continue to closely coordinate with regional and international partners to promote the path towards a political agreement that would bring peace, stability and economic development.”.
