11/04/2023 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission launched, on Tuesday 11 April, the first-stage consultation of European social partners on a possible revision of the European Works Councils (EWC) Directive, which provides for employee information and consultation bodies in companies with more than 1,000 employees and operating in at least two Member States. This consultation follows the European Parliament’s resolution in February, which called for the revision of the Directive (see EUROPE 13113/9). The Commission has already undertaken to present a legislative proposal, depending in particular on the negotiations between the social partners. There are about 1,000 companies or groups of companies with an active EWC in the EU, of which 281 European Works Councils are active in Germany. In more than ten Member States there is no or only one EWC. Link to the consultation: https://aeur.eu/f/69g (SP)
