11/04/2023 (Agence Europe) – The European Banking Federation, the European Association of Co-operative Banks and the European Savings and Retail Banking Group called on the co-legislators on Tuesday 11 April to remove payments from the scope of the future European Digital Identity Wallet (EiD) Regulation (see EUROPE 13119/3). According to the three associations, “huge investments would be required” in the financial sector as well as for “the overall acceptance network”, if “widely used” cards and payment specifications be included in the future EiD infrastructure. “This could possibly result in disproportionate costs for merchants and service industries that accept card payments in accordance with the second Payment Services Directive”, the co-signatories say. Conversely, removing it from the text “would also solve the general issue of liability banks would face”, they argue. See the letter: https://aeur.eu/f/69t (TM)
