11/04/2023 (Agence Europe) – After the conditional release last week of Pier-Antonio Panzeri, the former MEP accused of being at the centre of a scandal of MEP corruption by foreign countries such as Qatar and Morocco, MEP Marc Tarabella (S&D, Belgian), who was taken into custody in February after his parliamentary immunity was lifted (see EUROPE 13119/18), will soon be released. He will be “under electronic surveillance” and will remain at the disposal of the investigators, his team said on Tuesday 11 April, highlighting that Mr Tarabella has always denied having received money or gifts in exchange for his opinions. The former vice-president of the European Parliament, Greek socialist Éva Kaïlí, has been in prison since the scandal broke in December 2022 and continues to proclaim her innocence. The Belgian justice system will decide on Thursday on her request for conditional release in this case. (MB)
