03/04/23 (Agence Europe) – Following the adoption of the new Renewable Energy Directive on 30 March (see EUROPE 13153/1), the Clean Air Committee, which campaigns against the biomass industry, in collaboration with the Internal Coalition against Burning Biomassa, expressed its disappointment in a press release on Saturday 1 April. “The decision to reach a higher renewable energy target, from 32% to 42.5% means an even greater use of woody biomass combustion for energy.” The collective deplores the adjustments to the rules on forest biomass that do not put an end to the burning of primary forest biomass. It warns that the additional CO2 emissions that are released during combustion will increase “the carbon debt for decades to centuries”. To see the press release: https://aeur.eu/f/663 (PLD)
