EU Council adopts sanctions against perpetrators of sexual violence worldwide

Ahead of International Women’s Day on 8 March, the Council of the EU on Tuesday 7 March adopted sanctions against nine individuals and three entities responsible for sexual violence, rape and large-scale violation of women’s rights.

Sanctioned under the EU human rights sanctions regime (see EUROPE B12617A2), they will have their assets frozen in the EU and will no longer be able to receive funds, directly or indirectly, from any person or entity based in the Union. The listed...
