EU condemns “absurd” prison sentences for five political opponents, including Svetlana Tikhanovskaya

07/03/2023 (Agence Europe) – The European Union condemns the “absurd sentences, which were built on fabricated charges of treason, extremism, conspiracy and incitement to hatred” that the Belarusian judiciary has imposed in absentia on five human rights defenders, including opposition politician Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, said EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell in a statement on Tuesday 7 March, criticising the “misuse of judiciary” by the Lukashenko regime....
