European Parliament adopts position on conservation measures for southern bluefin tuna

02/02/2023 (Agence Europe)On Thursday 2 February, the European Parliament adopted its position on the transposition into European legislation of the relevant control, conservation and management measures adopted by the Commission for the Conservation of Southern Bluefin Tuna (CCSBT). The total allowable catch (TAC) for southern bluefin tuna in the CCSBT area is 17,647 tonnes per year for the period 2021-2023, which is the same as the 2018-2020 TAC. The CCSBT has allocated to the EU a catch limit of 11 tonnes for 2021. The proposal prohibits EU vessels from targeting southern bluefin tuna (only by-catches are allowed) and implements the CCSBT Catch Documentation Scheme (CDS). (LC)
