The Council of the EU adopted, on Monday 12 December, a new package of sanctions targeting four individuals and entities in North Korea. The EU is responding to the increase in missile launches by North Korea in recent months, which it says undermine the non-proliferation regime (see EUROPE 13067/29).
The new sanctions target individuals and structures that support and finance North Korea’s nuclear and ballistic missile programmes, such as two oil tankers and cargo ships that violated UN resolutions. The Ministry of Rocket Industry was also added to the list of those sanctioned for funding the development of nuclear and missile technologies.
73 individuals and 13 entities are now sanctioned by the EU and are therefore banned from European territory in addition to having their assets frozen in the EU. (Original version in French by Léa Marchal)
