European Commission signs agreement with Panama on use of Copernicus data

12/12/2022 (Agence Europe)On Monday 12 December, the European Commission announced the signing of an agreement with Panama to share data produced by the European Earth observation programme Copernicus. In exchange for facilitated access to Copernicus data, Panama will provide access to in-situ systems such as ground-based sensors, which will enrich Copernicus data at the global level. In return, the Commission will establish a Copernicus Regional Data Centre in Panama to provide data to stakeholders in Central America and the Caribbean, particularly in the fight against the effects of climate change. The issue of the use of space data is at the heart of European action in the space sector and of the concerns of the Member States (see EUROPE 13076/4). (PH)
