12/12/2022 (Agence Europe) – In its conclusions on Monday 12 December, the EU Council called for the renewal of the truce in Yemen, which expired on 2 October, and for calm and restraint while negotiations to renew it are ongoing. In its conclusions (https://aeur.eu/f/4mf ), the EU Council reaffirms its commitment to a UN-led peace process and an inclusive settlement. It highlights that “although hopes were raised in the year 2022 for a peace process (...), the EU regrets that this has not yet materialised”. The Ministers call on the parties to the conflict to cooperate with the UN representative in a constructive manner, to refrain from hostilities, and to fully respect international humanitarian law. They also stress “the need to address the humanitarian imperative by supporting the people of Yemen”. (CG)
