30/11/2022 (Agence Europe) – On 29 November, the European Commission granted €5.5 million to a project run by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) to ensure “safe homes for people fleeing the war in Ukraine”, it announced on 30 November. This project assesses the needs of people seeking accommodation, informs them of private offers, and provides advice to potential hosts. It reinforces the ‘Safe Homes’ initiative proposed in June to help Member States, regional and local authorities and civil society to organise private housing initiatives for people fleeing the war in Ukraine. This financial support was announced at the High Level Forum on Legal Pathways to Protection, whereby 16 Member States renewed offers for 29,000 resettlement and humanitarian admission places for 2023.
