30/11/2022 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission announced on Wednesday 30 November that formal negotiations for Canada’s association with the European Union’s Framework Programme for Research and Innovation (Horizon Europe) for the period 2021-2027 had begun. The Commission mentions a possible agreement in spring 2023. It specifies that Horizon Europe offers the possibility for third countries that are not geographically close to the EU, but share common values and an advanced scientific and technological profile, to be associated with this European programme. The association allows researchers based in the third country to participate in Horizon Europe calls. Canada had expressed its desire to enter into negotiations following statements by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on 15 June 2021, following the EU-Canada Summit.
