European journalist shows situation of disabled people in Ukraine

29/11/2022 (Agence Europe)The European Association of Service Providers for Persons with Disabilities (EASPD) will present, on Wednesday 30 November in Brussels, a preview of the film “Ukraine- Paused Reforms”. Directed by Bulgarian journalist Miroluba Benatova, the documentary deals with the situation of people with disabilities forced to stay in Ukraine despite the conflict. In essence, the Russian invasion has put on hold reforms started in 2017 that aim to promote the development of community-based services as an alternative to placing people with disabilities in institutes or care centres. The screening will be followed by a round table discussion with Ms Benatova and the people whose stories are told in the documentary. A second round table will focus on EU measures to support Ukraine in moving away from the institutionalisation of people with disabilities.
