24/11/2022 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission updated, on Thursday 24 November, its implementing decision on spectrum for mobile communications on-board aircrafts. In practical terms, this means that passengers on board flights in the EU will be able to use their mobile phones to their full capacity and functionality, just as they would with a 5G mobile network on the ground. “5G will bring innovative services to people and growth opportunities to European businesses. The sky is the limit when it comes to the possibilities offered by super-fast, high-capacity connectivity”, commented the Commissioner for the Internal Market, Thierry Breton. In addition, the Commission announced, on the same day, the amendment of another implementing decision on the 5GHz frequency bands, which makes these bands available for Wi-Fi in road transport such as cars and buses.
