On Wednesday 23 November, the European Commission approved the mobilisation of €380 million in 168 new innovative projects under the LIFE programme, the financial instrument specifically dedicated to environmental, climate or clean energy projects.
The projects, with a total value of more than €562 million, were deemed eligible for EU co-financing under the 2021-2027 budget, which increased the LIFE envelope by almost 60% (see EUROPE 12603/15). This year’s EU co-financing represents an increase of 27% compared to last year.
The projects cover nature protection and biodiversity, circular economy and quality of life, climate change mitigation and adaptation, or clean energy transition - the four LIFE sub-programmes.
These projects will be implemented in 24 EU Member States (Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden).
