24/11/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 24 November, the European Commission approved Slovakia’s Territorial Plan for a Just Transition. €459 million from the Just Transition Fund has been earmarked for the investment strategy that will support a just transition for the metal and chemical industries in three Slovak regions. In the Trenčín region, the only coal mining region in the country, investments will aim to create new employment opportunities as well as support energy efficiency measures and renewable energy measures. In Košice, the region with the greatest potential for decarbonisation, funds will be directed towards training and the creation of jobs in green energy. Finally, in the Banská Bystrica region, efforts will focus on training, energy efficiency of public buildings and the use of geothermal energy resources. (HS)
