12/09/2022 (Agence Europe) – The Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO) approved, on Monday 12 September, in the margins of the European Parliament plenary session, the report by Andrus Ansip (Renew Europe, Estonian) on the future Digital Identity Wallet (32 votes in favour, 3 votes against, 8 abstentions). The Estonian MEP’s report clarifies, among other things, the role and obligations of the Member States and insists on the voluntary use of the citizens’ wallet. Most of the European Parliament groups had, during the last exchange of views on the subject in committee on Thursday 8 September, expressed their support for the vote (see EUROPE 13017/7), welcoming the fact that the new version of the text took into account a large part of the wishes of MEPs formulated in the 187 amendments tabled.
