The European Data Protection Board (EDPB) presented the 2021 edition of its annual report on Thursday 12 May.
“2021 was the fourth year of the EDPB’s existence and the first year of implementation of the EDPB’s multi-annual strategy 2021-2023. Although we have continued to work mainly from a distance due to the ongoing impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, it has been a very productive year in which we have completed many key actions to achieve the goals set out in our strategy”, said EDPB President Andrea Jelinek.
An important part of the EDPB’s work has been devoted to international transfers of personal data. The year 2021 also saw the EDPB adopt the final version of its recommendations on complementary measures following the Schrems II judgment of the Court of Justice of the EU and adopt several adequacy decisions with the United Kingdom or South Korea.
The EDPB also worked in 2021 in the area of digital policy, adopting opinions on the Data Governance Act (DGA) (see EUROPE 12927/11) and on the Artificial Intelligence Act (see EUROPE 12950/7).
