12/05/2022 (Agence Europe) – Global renewable energy is expected to experience another year of record growth in 2022, with the installation of 320 gigawatts of additional capacity (up from 295 GW in 2021), an increase of more than 8%, according to a new report published by the International Energy Agency (IEA) on Wednesday 11 May. The largest growth is in China (over 140 GW of new capacity), followed by Europe (over 50 GW). Reacting to the release of the report, IEA Executive Director Fatih Birol said: “Cutting red tape, accelerating permitting and providing incentives for faster renewables deployment are some of the most important actions governments can take to address the current energy crisis and climate challenges the world faces”.
