11/05/2022 (Agence Europe) – Any citizen who wants to participate in the EU’s goal of planting 3 billion trees by 2030 will now be able to register and map the trees they have planted so that they count towards the EU's commitment. The MapMyTree online platform was opened up on 11 May to all EU citizens. This tool for monitoring the target set out in the ‘European Green Deal’ and the EU Biodiversity Strategy was presented by the European Commission and the European Environment Agency last December (see EUROPE 12850/32). Only trees that are beneficial to biodiversity and climate can be registered. The right tree must be planted in the right place. The aim is to increase the EU’s forest area and resilience as well as to contribute to the fight against biodiversity loss, climate change and pollution. (AN)
