09/12/2021 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission and the European Environment Agency presented on Thursday 9 December MapMyTree, an online platform that will serve as a monitoring tool for the target set out in the 'European Green Deal ' and the EU Biodiversity Strategy to plant 300 billion trees by 2030. All organisations wishing to join this commitment will be able to register and map the trees they have planted. Only trees that are beneficial to biodiversity and climate can be registered. Organisations will be required to sign a declaration on their honour that the data they provide is correct and complies with the principles of the initiative. The Commission's role will be to facilitate, motivate and monitor progress. In spring 2022, the platform will be open to all, so that every new tree that meets the requirements can be counted.
