02/05/2022 (Agence Europe) – The Spanish government suggested on Monday 2 May that the mobile phone of the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, was spied on twice in 2021 using Pegasus spyware, Spanish media reported. The Defence Minister’s laptop was also reportedly hacked in the same way, the government spokesperson said. The European Parliament is due to hold a debate this week on the use of this Israeli software in the EU, particularly against journalists, political opponents and civil society actors. Recent revelations have indicated that Catalan elected officials have been spied on using this software. The European Parliament committee of inquiry on Pegasus began work on 19 April. (SP)
