Latest Eurostat data confirms rising energy prices in second half of 2021

In the second half of 2021, average electricity and gas prices for households in the European Union rose sharply compared to the same period in 2020, from €21.3 (per 100 kWh) to €23.7, and from €7 to €7.8 respectively, the latest data published by Eurostat, the EU statistical office, showed on Friday 29 April.

As regards electricity prices, the figures show that they increased in all EU countries during this period, with the exception of Slovakia (-6%) and Hungary (-0.1%).

The largest increase was recorded in Estonia (+50%), followed by Sweden (+49%) and Cyprus (+36%).

For gas, prices fell in only three EU countries between the second half of 2020 and the second half of 2021: Slovakia (-12%), the Czech Republic (-5%) and Portugal (-1%).

The largest increases were observed in Bulgaria (+103%), followed by Greece (+96%) and Estonia (+83%). It should be noted that Cyprus, Malta and Finland are not included here in the case of gas, as these countries do not provide information on gas prices for households.
