Ms Loiseau and Mr Paet call for additional support

Renew Europe MEPs Nathalie Loiseau (France) and Urmas Paet (Estonia), members of a delegation visiting Moldova, called on Friday 1 April for more support for Moldova, which is hosting many Ukrainian refugees.

We need to improve the support for what you are doing”, Ms Loiseau said, praising the generosity of Moldovans towards Ukrainian refugees, while recalling that it is a burden that must be shared.

Germany will host a donor conference on 5 April, co-organised by France and Romania, to help Moldova address the situation.

Mr Paet urged the EU to take action on agricultural quotas for imports from Moldova to the EU. He believed the EU could also facilitate the transit of Moldovan products through the Member States with as little bureaucracy as possible, as these products can no longer pass through Ukraine.

The MEP also said it was very important for the EU to help Chisinau increase its energy security.

Ms Loiseau and Mr Paet also called for greater cooperation between the EU and Moldova in the fight against disinformation and on cyber security.

In Moldova, the European Parliament delegation will meet, among others, the President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, the Prime Minister, Natalia Gavriliţa, the Speaker of the Parliament, Igor Grosu, and will visit the border with Ukraine. (Original version in French by Camille-Cerise Gessant)
