01/04/2022 (Agence Europe) – “I am deeply concerned about the deteriorating political situation in Tunisia”, said Tiny Kox, President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, today. “With the President’s decision to dissolve the parliament, which has been suspended since July 2021, the tug of war between the institutions has now reached a new and dangerous stage”, he added, before calling to “avoid any further escalation” and “preserve the democratic gains”. Tiny Kox has invited Tunisia to make use of the Council of Europe’s experience in the field of rule of law, human rights and democracy. This proposal was already made by the head of the Council of Europe Office in Tunis during her meeting with the Tunisian Minister of Foreign Affairs on 11 March, less than 20 days before the dissolution of the parliament on 30 March.
