16/03/2022 (Agence Europe) – The Ecofin Council welcomed on Tuesday 15 March the first results of the application of the new EU VAT rules on e-commerce (see 12905/15). It said that they indicate that the package contributes to the digital transition, economic recovery and the sustainability of public finances across the EU. The EU Council looks forward to the European Commission’s ‘VAT in the Digital Age’ initiative. It encourages the European Commission to continue its work, including simplifying the operation of the EU VAT system. The European Commission is asked to consider the potential elimination of the €150 threshold for the use of the Import One-Stop Shop (IOSS), which allows businesses to discharge their VAT obligations on remote sales of imported goods.
