16/03/2022 (Agence Europe) – The S&D group has appointed France’s Sylvie Guillaume as rapporteur for the regulation reforming the Schengen Borders Code, a source from the group told EUROPE on Wednesday 16 March. The MEP succeeds Slovenia’s MEP Tanja Fajon (S&D), who was appointed rapporteur on the previous reform project, proposed in 2017, but which failed to reach agreement with the EU Council. The new revision proposed by the Commission in December targets, among other things, the issue of the instrumentalisation of migrants, coordination at internal and external borders in times of pandemic or the ‘tracking’ of secondary movements of migrants between Member States with joint police patrols. This last point is currently the subject of great divergence within the EU Council, according to a diplomatic source. (SP)
