EU Humanitarian Air Bridge continues to deliver vital medical aid to Kabul

A new EU humanitarian airlift flight delivered more than 25 metric tonnes of vital medical cargo to Kabul on Thursday 24 February to provide help to the most vulnerable people in Afghanistan, the European Commission announced the same day. This flight, which is funded by the EU, is the first of a new series.

It provided essential health supplies from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the European humanitarian organisations Archemed (Germany), Emergency (Italy) and Première Urgence (France).

The humanitarian situation in Afghanistan has further deteriorated and must be considered the worst humanitarian crisis in the world. This air bridge allows humanitarian organisations to continue their activities in the country and represents a lifeline for those people in need of medical treatment”, commented EU Commissioner for Crisis Management Janez Lenarčič. He added that “six more flights to Kabul are planned for the coming months”.

280 tonnes of humanitarian cargo had previously been delivered to Kabul between August and December 2021 (see EUROPE 12849/24, 12818/9). (Original version in French by Aminata Niang)
