25/02/2022 (Agence Europe) – The members of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), meeting in plenary session, have condemned the Russian invasion of Ukrainian territory on Thursday 24 February. Echoing the strong language used by most Western organisations, they considered the invasion to be “unjustified and unprovoked”, but also a “blatant” violation of international law and the international Minsk agreements. They have also expressed their solidarity with the Ukrainian people. The EESC will endeavour to continue supporting Ukrainian civil society through “well-established” channels, such as the EU-Ukraine Civil Society Platform, and through bilateral contacts, said Dimítris Dimitriadis, the president of the External Relations Section.
