RUSSO-UKRAINIAN CRISIS / Transport

A dozen airlines are stopping their flights to Kiev and Ukraine

22/02/2022 (Agence Europe)A dozen airlines, including Lufthansa, KLM and SAS, decided to interrupt their flights to Ukraine on Tuesday 22 February due to the Russian-Ukrainian crisis. Others, such as Air France, have decided to stop flying to the country’s capital, Kiev. Asked about the issue on the sidelines of the informal meeting of EU transport ministers at Le Bourget (see other news), the EU commissioner responsible, Adina Vălean, said that it was not up to the European Commission to take EU-wide measures. “This is not a Commission decision, it is up to the Member States and airlines to see how they will operate”, she said. Discussions on this issue should also be led by other stakeholders, such as the International Air Transport Association (IATA), she added. (TM)
