Brussels, 22/02/2022 (Agence Europe) – Two years after the European Parliament asked it to investigate the 'Luanda Leaks' revelations (see EUROPE 12425/10), the European Banking Authority (EBA) published its findings on Tuesday 22 February. It reveals shortcomings in some national competent authorities (NCAs) in identifying and combating money laundering and terrorist financing risks. “Not enough NCAs have taken advantage of existing cooperation channels to exchange information”, the EBA points out in its report. This means that “persons of questionable integrity, or against whom there are serious and long-standing allegations of corruption, may continue to own or control credit and financial institutions”, it adds. However, the EBA also identifies good practices in some Member States. To read the report: https://aeur.eu/f/g4 (AD)
