09/02/2022 (Agence Europe) – The European Parliament and the Council of the EU met for a third time on Tuesday 8 February to discuss the directive to establish adequate minimum wages in Europe and discussed at length the thorny Article 5 to determine the adequacy of statutory minimum wages. In view of the divergent positions of the two institutions (the Parliament wants to introduce a criterion of in-work poverty and to remove the criterion linked to labour productivity), the European Commission has been invited to submit, at the next interinstitutional meeting, a proposal on the criteria for measuring the adequacy of these wages, we were told. The next meeting will be held on Thursday 17 February. (PH)
