EU and Nairobi launch strategic dialogue to deepen their partnership

The EU and Kenya are longstanding partners and will strengthen their partnership at bilateral and multilateral levels. This is demonstrated by the strategic dialogue that was launched on Friday 28 January during the visit of the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, to the Horn of Africa country, ahead of the EU/AU summit on 17 and 18 February.

Mr Borrell discussed with President Kenyatta how to take this partnership forward.

We are strategic and like-minded partners working for prosperity, stability, peace and security for the entire Horn of Africa region”, Mr Borrell said on his Twitter account.

The first session of the working groups at technical level started on the same day.

Mr Borrell and the representative of the Kenyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Raychelle Omamo, outlined the main features of this strategic partnership to the press (see EUROPE 12878/3).

It will cover : - peace, security and stability; - democracy, governance and human rights, including gender equality; - trade and investment ; - social development ; - the fight against climate change and the green transition ; - digital strategy.

The EU’s cooperation programme with Kenya has been allocated €324 million until 2027. (Original version in French by Aminata Niang)
