28/01/2022 (Agence Europe) – 36 MEPs from the Greens/EFA group sent a letter to the European Commission on Wednesday 26 January asking it to raise the overall level of ambition of the strategy for sustainable textiles. For example, the signatories call for strong European action to reduce textile consumption by focusing on production rather than consumers. They also propose a ban on the destruction of textiles and an alignment of the taxonomy classification. They say the European Environment Agency should play a greater role in assessing the measures put in place to reduce the environmental impact of the sector in relation to the COP26 objectives. They call for the introduction of due diligence legislation. The European Commission plans to present the strategy on 30 March. To read the letter: https://bit.ly/3IKwjN9 (PH)
