MEPs approve Interinstitutional Agreement on free data roaming

26/01/2022 (Agence Europe) – MEPs on the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) on Wednesday 26 January approved (69 votes in favour, none against and six abstentions) the informal agreement reached between the European Parliament and the Council of the EU on extending free data roaming for 10 years. This agreement was reached on the night of 8-9 December 2021, with the current regulation expiring on 30 June 2022 (see EUROPE 12850/6). The text, presented by Angelika Winzig (EPP, Austria), will have to be voted on by the European Parliament during the plenary session of 23 and 24 March before being formally adopted. (TM)
